2024 is the second year that the Fair Share Amendment is paying for massive improvements in roads, bridges, schools, colleges, and public transit across Massachusetts. We say it a lot at Fair Share HQ because we never get tired of repeating it. The Fair Share Amendment has already raised more than a billion dollars to make changes like these possible.
- Massachusetts families are saving $1,200 a year per child thanks to universal free school meals.
- Local cities and towns are seeing a 50% increase in funding for road and bridge repairs.
- Free community college expansion led to an 8% increase in students enrolling.
- Regional transit authorities are expanding service and eliminating fares.
- Public colleges have more money to make crucial repairs to their campuses, move toward decarbonization, and increase their climate resilience.
And here’s one more thing that we’re proud of:
- Massachusetts is now the seventh most progressive state tax system in the country, moving up 10 spots since voters passed Fair Share. That’s because the super rich are paying more, and we all see the benefits.
These incredible changes are only possible because of the thousands of people who knocked doors, made calls, talked to their neighbors, and voted for the Fair Share Amendment. We can’t wait to see how the Fair Share Amendment will make our lives better in 2024.
